Brandt

Brandt believes that literacy is a key tool towards the success and the running if our society.  I do agree with this.  During our childhood, when we are a lot more more innocent and immature, companies will step s few levels down to your literacy level in order to relate.  But what happens to the adults that can't read or write on an appropriate way based on their age.  In this case,  adults like the ones explained in the article have to take responsibility for themselves in order to lift their literacy levels.  Dora was born on a border town of Texas and Mexico.  Her Mexican parents couldn't even teach her Spanish.  Yet, Dora taught herself among others in her family in order to rise above and function properly within our literacy system.  With out people like this, we wouldn't be able to understand the importance of literacy.

"Sponsors enable and hinder literacy activity, often forcing the formation of new literacy requirements"(pg 344).  Literacy sponsors have a big influence on modern standards of what literacy may actually mean.  If you shy away from these standards,  the adopted sponsors may deem you illiterate.
